Reading Reflection No. 2

1.     The art of social media: power tips for power users dives deep into how using social media can boost your company in every aspect. Whether it be generating more revenue, engaging more customers, or even replying to an unsatisfied customer on social media Guy Kawasaki and Peg take the average business owner step by step on how to accomplish it all.  They help you take your preconceived social media strategy to the next level by offering the most effective way to perfect posts and gain more followers by stating a few simple steps on exactly how to do that.
2.     The book connects with the current and upcoming entrepreneur of this century. Social Media is blowing up and becoming a main source of information about the business as opposed to a website. In this class we are all learning about how to perfect our business ventures and what goes into building that successful business concept. One cannot do so without the proper marketing and targeting the necessary demographic. The social media tips given in this book are numerous and if one takes the time to read this, they will get so much out of it like I did. Being a 20 year old in this day and age, I think I know all the ins and out about social media, but this book was eye opening in the sense that it was a fun, humorous book but at the same time I gained a plethora of knowledge that I will use no matter the type of business I end up creating/working for.
3.     I think the exercise I would use would be similar to that of my Business Writing class I took earlier this year. I would have everyone chose a business, whether it be known or not, and evaluate their social media platforms. After reading this book, one gets a very good idea of what type of strategies certain companies need to utilize to make it that much more of a success. By basing their knowledge off of this, the students will then critique the business’ social media platform and come up with better/different/new ideas for the business to employ in order to benefit the company. This way, students will not only read the book, but take what they’ve learned and put it to use so they can see first hand how much this book can benefit a business.
  4.   I think the biggest “aha” moment I had was how simple social media marketing is. I, for some reason, has this idea in my head that it was so tricky and you had to say the exact right thing at a specific time from a social media platform in order to target your specific demographic. While this is sort of the case, the book makes it so much easier. By listing out the specific steps needed to take to generate that much more traffic to your business’ Facebook page or post things that piss people off in order to get people talking and start a conversation. Social Media can be fun, especially if you really become “Guy Kawasaki”. By showing how every possible social media platform can be used to a specific business’ benefit really shows just how much easier creating a social media strategy for your company can be
