1. My belief is there is an opportunity for rent-a-wheelchair van
2. Orlando is the number 1 vacation capital of the world. Each year, millions of people fly into Orlando International airport excited to visit Disney World and all of the attractions on vacation. Many families have a family member with a disability that requires a wheelchair or someone who has recently had surgery that is confined to a wheelchair. There are few to none wheel chair vans that can be easily rented at enterprise, hertz, etc. As of right now, families are having to accommodate their in need family member/friend in inconvenient and time consuming ways. I am 99.9% sure this opportunity exists.
3. The prototypical customer is anyone who is confined to a wheelchair.

5. After interviewing my Gramma and two friends, who have both experienced this situation, it made me realize how much more relevant this unmet need is. They all emphasized the convenience factor and how much time and effort it would save if they were able to rent a wheel chair van as easily as someone can rent a car. What was the most surprising was how many people just give up or do not even try to all Enterprise or Hertz to see if wheel chair vans are available because they know how much of a hassle it is and how little wheel chair vans are generally available. With each conversation I was surprised at how often we see someone in a wheel chair at the airport and do not even think how much effort goes into getting them from point A to point B. I was also surprised at the amount of people that just call of their trips (like my Gramma) because there is no easy way for her to get places.
6. I believe that the opportunity is definitely still there, if not even more after talking to my prototypical customers. I believe that feedback is the key that keeps entrepreneurs thinking and tweaking their ideas; the world keeps changing and peoples' preferences keep changing, so feedback is what they thrive on.
Hey Jayme,
ReplyDeleteI really liked how you recognized the unmet need and created a solution for this problem. You clearly defined your prototypical customer and applied your service to the Orlando area. It makes sense that this service would be needed due to the influx of tourists in this areas. A wheel chair rental would seem to make life a whole lot easier for those in need. I am surprised it is not an already available service. Great post!
Hello Jayme, I wanted to let you know how well you did bringing all of the interviews and points together in the reflection. It can sometimes be hard pulling all of this information together when you have so much of it. Either way, I absolutely agree with you. I was at Disney a couple of weeks ago, and I can really see how tough it could be dealing with all that you have to go through just to accommodate for your friends/family.
ReplyDeleteThis is an incredible Idea. I can't believe this isn't already a thing to be honest. We discussed in class the reasons that opportunities aren't "worth" being pursued, and the only thing I can think of for this idea is that it might be easy for people to enter that market after you (existing rent a van companies could just increase their inventory of wheel chair vans). You did well to notice the need for wheel chair rental vans, and accomplished the goal of the assignment.
ReplyDeleteI love your idea! I think there are SO many opportunites to help handicapped people. I would look into local wheelchair transportation (ie within small towns or cities) to see if that's a thing or if there's room make improvemnts in that area.
ReplyDeleteHey Jayme. This seems like it be a great idea but it does need more development. I'm not sure if you know what would be the target demographic for this service. How were you 99.9 percent sure about the need. What was the story behind the idea? It seems like there could be a need for it, but you haven't established the "selling-point." This was a good post overall however.
